The single room is the most undervalued space in any hospitality property. It gets furnished with whatever’s left over, photographed poorly, sold at a rate that doesn’t cover costs, and filled last. Yet the solo traveller is one of the most loyal guests there is: find them a well-furnished single room, with a proper bed rather than a child’s bed, and they come back. Give them a room that feels like an afterthought, and they don’t come back, and they write about it. The single bed is the starting point of the whole argument: a single bed with a reinforced frame, a quality headboard and the right dimensions completely changes the perception of the room. We make bespoke single beds for hotels, to measure in size and finish, that can be paired with the twin-to-double conversion system for double rooms, with headboards coordinated to the room’s furniture. Delivery and installation included worldwide.

Discover Every Type of Single Bed for Hotels and Guesthouses

80 cm Single Bed

The base size for single rooms in economy hotels and Bu0026amp;Bs with limited space: solid wood frame with reinforced slats, upholstered headboard 80 cm high, base with or without storage. An 80 cm width is the minimum acceptable size for an adult sleeping alone: below this, negative reviews about the bed become systematic. Available in all finishes that can be coordinated with the room’s furniture.

90 cm Single Bed

The most requested size for 3-star hotels and mid-range properties: 10 cm more than the standard, which makes a noticeable difference to sleep quality. Reinforced frame with 10 mm thick slats, upholstered headboard 90-100 cm high, finish that can be coordinated with the wardrobe and desk. For properties that want the solo guest to sleep well and say so in their reviews.

100 cm Single Bed

For 4-star hotels and properties that want to remove the perceived difference between a single and a double room: 100 cm width, solid wood frame with 12 mm reinforced slats, upholstered headboard 110-120 cm high with exposed stitching on request. A guest sleeping on a 100 cm bed doesn’t feel they’ve paid less for a smaller space.

Superior Single Bed

A single bed designed to be used in pairs in double rooms: bases with a side coupling system for converting to a double, coordinated bedside tables that slide on a floor track, separate headboards that stay visually coordinated in both configurations. The frame that solves the operational problem of the convertible double room without compromise, in either twin or double configuration.

Single Bed with Storage

For single rooms with limited storage space: base with a 150-litre storage compartment accessible via a piston, reinforced frame to bear the weight of a full compartment, opening mechanism tested for intensive use. Removes the need for a separate chest of drawers in the room and frees up visual space without reducing storage capacity for the guest.

Solid Wood Single Bed

For farmhouses, mountain hotels, boutique Bu0026amp;Bs and properties with a wood-based visual identity: exposed oak, walnut or ash frame with a natural oil finish, upholstered headboard in coordinated fabric. A bed that’s part of the property’s story rather than a neutral element. Available in any dimension from 80 to 120 cm in width, made to measure for rooms with specific geometric constraints.

Which Single Bed to Buy for a Hotel

Most Italian hotels furnish single rooms with 80 cm beds. It’s the size that takes up the least space, costs the least and allows more rooms to be fitted onto the same floor. It’s also the size that generates the most negative reviews about bed comfort in single rooms: an 80 cm width is the physiological minimum for an adult who turns over during sleep, and any guest over 80 kg or taller than 180 cm perceives it as insufficient.

The cost difference between an 80 cm and a 90 cm single bed is marginal: the extra materials for 10 cm of width have a negligible effect on the final price. The difference in perception for the guest, on the other hand, is significant: 90 cm is the size at which almost any adult feels comfortable, regardless of build. A hotel that offers 90 cm single beds is making a precise positioning choice: it’s telling the solo guest that their room isn’t an afterthought.

For properties that want to go further, the 100 cm bed is the size that eliminates the perceived difference compared with a double room. A guest sleeping on a 100 cm bed doesn’t have the feeling of having paid less for a smaller space. For hotels wanting to attract regular business guests, this choice translates into real loyalty.

Single Beds for Twin Rooms: The Conversion System

In double rooms in Italian hotels, the single bed has an additional function compared with the single room: it needs to be able to become part of a double bed quickly and without effort on the part of staff. This requirement completely changes the bed’s construction requirements.

A standard single bed isn’t designed to be pushed against another bed and joined into a double configuration. The edges don’t line up, the heights don’t match, the bedside tables don’t move, and the separate headboards don’t coordinate visually. The result is a double room that, in double-bed configuration, looks like a compromise rather than a choice.

The system we make for convertible twin rooms solves the problem at the root. The bases of the two single beds have a side coupling system that joins them together stably without tools. The bedside tables run on floor sliding tracks: they move sideways with a single motion, without lifting anything. The headboards can be designed as a single panel covering both joined beds, or as two separate headboards in the same finish that keep visual continuity in both configurations. The full conversion takes less than two minutes, and the result is a room that looks designed for both uses, because it is.

Non-Standard Dimensions: How We Design Made-to-Measure Single Beds

Single rooms in Italian hotels often have layouts that don’t fit standard bed sizes. A room created in a historic building might have a back wall 195 cm long instead of the standard 200 cm, an alcove that holds the bed asymmetrically, a sloped ceiling that limits the headboard’s height, or a window positioned in a way that forces an unconventional bed orientation.

In all these cases, a standard catalogue bed creates problems: either it’s too long and doesn’t fit the alcove, too short and leaves an unusable empty gap, or the headboard is too tall for the sloped ceiling. We make single beds to the exact dimensions of the room, taken during the free site visit. A 192 cm long bed for a room with a 193 cm alcove isn’t a problem: it’s just our normal solution.

The same applies to headboards. In a room with exposed beams that come down to 160 cm, a standard 100 cm headboard won’t fit without hitting the beam. An 80 cm headboard designed for that specific room solves the problem without giving up the visual impact of an upholstered headboard. The 3D render we hand over before production shows the room furnished to the real measurements: the manager sees the final result before any furniture is made.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recommended minimum width for a single bed in a hotel?

The acceptable minimum to avoid negative reviews about comfort is 90 cm. 80 cm is technically sufficient for an adult of average build, but it’s the size that generates the most dissatisfaction among guests of above-average height or build. For properties wanting to position themselves on quality, we recommend 90 cm as the minimum standard.

Are single beds for twin rooms compatible with any type of mattress?

The side coupling system works with mattresses between 18 and 30 cm thick. For thicker mattresses, we assess the most suitable coupling solution for the bed’s overall height during the site visit.

Can I order just the bed frame without the base?

Yes. We make the bed frame and base both as a coordinated system and as separate elements. If the existing base is in good condition, we make just the frame and headboard in finishes coordinated with the existing room furniture.

Do you make single beds for accessible rooms?

Yes. Beds for accessible rooms have a floor height adjustable between 45 and 60 cm, a frame with no sharp edges, and free manoeuvring space on both sides. Measurements are taken during the site visit based on the room’s dimensions and the property’s specific requirements.

How long does it take to produce and deliver single beds?

Production takes around 4-6 weeks from order confirmation. Delivery and installation are included worldwide and are agreed with the property to minimise operational disruption.

Do you make single beds coordinated with furniture from other manufacturers?

Yes. If you provide a sample of the existing finish, we make the bed frame and headboard in the most compatible finish available from our 15 standard options or based on a dedicated sample.
