The reception is the first space a guest crosses and the last one they see before leaving. Those two moments shape and close the overall impression of the stay. A desk poorly proportioned to the space, uncomfortable waiting chairs, furnishings that don’t speak to one another: these are details guests register without analysing them, yet they still shape the final judgement of the property. We design and make bespoke reception furniture for hotels, guesthouses and hospitality properties, built to the real dimensions of the space and coordinated with the property’s visual identity. Reception desk, waiting area, furnishings. One point of contact, with delivery and installation included worldwide.

The Reception Desk: Dimensions, Materials and Functionality

The reception desk is the most complex working piece of furniture in any hospitality property. It has to answer several needs at once: staff need to be able to work standing for hours in an ergonomic way, guests need a front high enough to feel they’re in a professional setting, IT systems and cables need to stay hidden yet accessible, and the whole thing needs to look tidy even at busy times.

The height of the internal worktop is the first critical parameter: 88-92 cm is the measurement that lets staff work standing without straining their shoulders. The height of the outer front facing the guest is typically 108-115 cm: high enough to hide the operational clutter of the inner surface, low enough not to create a physical barrier between staff and guest.

The length of the desk depends on the number of workstations needed. A single workstation requires at least 90 cm in length. For properties with two staff working at once, the desk needs to be at least 180 cm long. For hotels with frequent group check-ins, 250-300 cm allows several guests to be handled in parallel without queues. The worktop material has to withstand years of intensive use, daily cleaning with professional products and the weight of heavy trolleys: the scratch-resistant surfaces we use keep their original appearance for the entire life of the piece.

How to Design a Hotel Reception

Every reception has a different floor plan, a different flow of guests and a different number of working stations. There’s no standard solution that works everywhere: a 200 cm desk in a 15 sq m reception with a narrow corridor becomes an obstacle rather than a welcoming point. A 120 cm desk in a 60 sq m reception disappears into the space and fails to convey any professional presence.

The free site visit we carry out before any proposal serves exactly this purpose: measuring the space, understanding the flow of guests in and out, understanding how many people work at the desk at once, checking the position of power sockets and data points, and understanding the property’s visual identity. Only after the site visit do we produce a 3D render showing the reception furnished to the real measurements, so the manager can check every choice before a single piece is made.

Once installed, the reception desk is difficult and costly to change. It’s the piece of furniture worth investing the most attention in at the design stage: the right dimensions, the right materials, the electrical system integrated in the right place. A well-designed reception goes unnoticed because it works: staff work efficiently, guests feel welcomed, and the first contact with the property reinforces rather than undermines the decision to book.

Coordinating Reception Furniture with the Rest of the Property

A reception that looks designed together with the rest of the property conveys professionalism even before a guest speaks to anyone. The finishes of the desk, the seating and the furnishings are chosen in dialogue with those of the bedrooms: the same wood families, the same metals for the details, the same base colour palette.

When we design the reception of a property that already has its bedrooms furnished, we start with a site visit that covers both areas. We gather samples, photograph the details and produce a 3D render showing the reception coordinated with the rest of the property before a single piece is made.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Do you make reception desks for irregularly shaped spaces too?

Yes. We design to the exact dimensions of the space, taken during the free site visit. Awkward angles, non-rectangular layouts, alcoves: every geometric constraint is resolved at the design stage.

Can a PC, printer and cabling be built into the desk?

Yes. We define the position of all the equipment at the design stage. Cables are hidden in ducting built into the structure, with technical access from the rear.

Do you also make a waiting area coordinated with the desk?

Yes. We make the complete system: desk, sofas, armchairs, coffee tables and furnishings in the same finishes. Or just the desk, if the waiting area is already furnished.

How long does it take to produce and install the reception?

About 5-6 weeks from order confirmation for a standard desk. For more complex projects, we set out a schedule at the design stage.

Do you also work with small properties with a compact reception?

Yes. We make desks from 80 cm in length upwards. For smaller spaces, we design configurations that maximise the working area within a compact width.

Do you coordinate the reception finishes with those of the bedrooms?

Yes. It’s an integral part of our process. We always start from the existing furniture or the furniture being designed, to guarantee visual consistency across all the property’s spaces.
