The headboard is the first thing you see when you walk into a hotel room. It’s what appears front and centre in the main photo on Booking, what guests photograph for social media, what stays in their overall impression of the stay long after every other detail has been forgotten. A low, thin headboard, or one in a worn-looking material, signals a lower standard than the property actually offers. A tall, well-padded headboard in a carefully chosen upholstery says the opposite: that the room was designed, not just put together. We make made-to-measure headboards for hotels in the dimensions, height, upholstery and finishes you need, for single and double beds, for standard rooms and suites. They can be matched to any base and bed frame, whether supplied by us or by other manufacturers. Delivery and installation included worldwide.

Bespoke bed headboards for hotels

Features of hotel bed headboards
A hotel headboard comes down to three precise construction elements: the thickness of the padding, the quality of the upholstery and the fixing system. Padding thickness determines both visual and physical comfort. A headboard with 4 cm of padding looks almost flat, and it shows in photos. A headboard with 6 to 8 cm has a depth that conveys material quality, and it’s genuinely more comfortable for guests reading propped up against the bed, one of the most frequent uses in a room. The foam we use has a density calibrated not to give way at the points of most frequent contact, even after years of intensive use: no flat patches, no localised dips.
The upholstery has to stand up to daily direct contact and cleaning with professional products. The eco-leather we use is tested to resist hotel detergents without cracking or dulling. Stitching is reinforced along the top edges and at the corners, the points where tension on the upholstery is greatest and where lower-quality materials fail first.
The fixing system is the third element. A poorly fixed headboard sways when a guest leans on it and gradually loosens its anchor point in the wall. The fixing we use, with a reinforced double bracket for wall mounting or a double hook system for mounting to the bed frame, eliminates any residual movement and keeps the headboard stable for its whole working life without needing maintenance.
Hotel headboards: height, padding and upholstery
Headboard height is the parameter with the biggest visual impact. In a room with a standard 270 cm ceiling, an 80 cm headboard covers less than a third of the wall height behind the bed and looks small. A 120 cm headboard covers almost half the height and creates a far stronger visual presence. A headboard of 150 to 160 cm, in rooms with high ceilings, becomes an architectural feature as much as a piece of furniture.
The rule of thumb is this: for economy hotels and properties where budget is the main constraint, a height of 80 to 90 cm is acceptable. For 3 star hotels that want to lift how the rooms feel without a full refurbishment, a height of 100 to 120 cm is the choice with the best balance of cost and visual impact. For 4 star hotels and suites, 130 cm and up.
The thickness of the padding is the second parameter.
A headboard with 4 cm of padding looks almost flat in photos. A headboard with 8 cm of padding has a visible depth that conveys material quality even in an image compressed for the web. Functionally, thicker padding is also more comfortable for guests reading propped up against the headboard, one of the most common uses in a hotel room. The minimum thickness we recommend for hotel use is 6 cm, with 8 cm as the standard for properties that want a satisfying visual result in their photos.
Wall fixing or fixing to the bed frame
Hotel headboards can be fixed in two ways: directly to the wall with reinforced brackets, or to the bed frame or base with dedicated hook systems. The choice depends on the layout of the room and the property’s operational needs.
Wall fixing is the most stable solution and gives the best visual result: the headboard stays perfectly upright, doesn’t move when a guest leans on it, and leaves no gap between the headboard and the wall where dust can collect. It’s also the best option for larger headboards, which would tend to sway if fixed to the bed frame alone. The drawback of wall fixing is that it requires drilling into the wall: for properties that let rooms short-term or want the flexibility to move beds around, this can be a constraint.
Fixing the headboard to the bed frame is the most flexible solution: the headboard moves with the bed without any need to drill new holes in the wall. It’s the preferred option for convertible twin rooms, where the beds are moved often. The drawback is that headboards fixed to the bed frame tend to sway slightly when a guest leans against them, which can come across as instability. We solve this with a double fixing system that anchors the headboard to both the bed frame and a stabilising point on the wall, giving you stability without losing the flexibility to move the beds.
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Do you make headboards to the exact dimensions of the existing bed?
Yes. Every headboard is made to the exact width of the bed or divan base it will be fitted to, with an additional 2-4 cm on each side to cover the edge of the base for a neat finish.
Is it possible to replace just the headboard without changing the divan base?
Yes. We make headboards as a stand-alone element, which can be matched to any existing bed base, whether supplied by us or by other manufacturers. All you need to tell us is the width of the bed and the height of the base, so we can size the headboard correctly.
Can faux leather headboards be cleaned with professional hotel cleaning products?
Yes. The eco-leather we use is specifically tested to resist professional detergents and disinfectants. It doesn’t crack, dull or change colour with the daily use of standard hotel cleaning products.
How long does headboard upholstery last under intensive hotel use?
The high-density foam we use keeps its supportive properties for at least 8 to 10 years of intensive hotel use. It doesn’t lose its shape or sag noticeably over time, unlike cheaper foams that start to give way after just two or three years.
Do you make headboards for rooms with low ceilings or exposed beams?
Yes. In these cases the headboard height is sized so it doesn’t interfere with the room’s structural constraints, identified during the site survey. Even a headboard of 70 to 75 cm, if well padded and upholstered, has a far stronger visual impact than no headboard at all.
How long does it take to produce and deliver a headboard?
Production takes around 3-4 weeks from order confirmation, slightly shorter than a complete room fit-out. Delivery and installation are included worldwide.
