The desk is the hardest-working piece of furniture in a hotel room. Guests eat at it when they don’t want to go down to the restaurant, work on it with a laptop, do their make-up in front of its mirror, rest an open suitcase on it when there’s no luggage rack, and tuck the minibar underneath when there’s no dedicated unit for it. It’s the piece of furniture that hosts the most functions at once, and almost nobody designs it with all of those functions in mind together. A desk that’s too narrow has no room for a laptop and a glass of water at the same time. A desk with no minibar recess forces you to add a separate unit that doesn’t match. A desk with a standard laminate top gets scratched after six months of daily professional cleaning. We make made-to-measure desks for hotels in the dimensions and finishes you need, with an integrated minibar recess, a built-in luggage rack, a solid wood or scratch-resistant top, and power and USB sockets exactly where you need them. No standard furniture, one single point of contact. Delivery and installation included worldwide.

Types of desks for hotel rooms

The hotel desk as a multifunctional piece of furniture

A hotel room desk is not an office desk. No single person works at it eight hours a day: different guests pass through every day, each using it differently. The business traveller opens their laptop on it at seven in the morning and works until breakfast. The tourist dumps their bags on it after a day out. The couple uses the top to set down breakfast in the room. The long-stay guest practically lives on it, with documents, food, charging cables and personal belongings.

Designing a desk for a hotel means designing a piece of furniture that answers all these uses without any one of them causing a problem. The top has to be wide enough for a laptop with room to spare either side: 120 cm is the minimum, 140 cm is the ideal size for guests working with paper documents. The minibar recess needs to be built in under the top so you’re not adding a separate unit that doesn’t match. The luggage rack has to be reachable without moving the chair. Power sockets belong on the top or on the side of the unit, not behind the desk where you have to shift everything to reach the extension lead.

When we design a desk for a hotel, we start from these questions: who uses this room, and how? How much wall space is available? Where are the electrical sockets? Is an integrated luggage rack needed, or is there room for a separate one? The answers determine the configuration, not a catalogue of fixed models.

The desk top: materials, dimensions and resistance to hotel use

The desk top is the surface that takes the most wear in a hotel room. It’s cleaned every day with professional products, scratched by keys and metal objects, stained by coffee and other drinks, and used as a resting surface for open suitcases whenever the luggage rack isn’t free.

The scratch-resistant surfaces we use for hotel desks are specifically tested to withstand professional cleaning products and everyday abrasion. They keep their original look for the whole working life of the desk, which is designed to last ten years or more under intensive use. For superior desks, a solid wood top is the choice that combines durability with looks: solid wood with a natural oil finish can be re-treated whenever it needs it, restoring the original appearance without replacing the top.

The minimum width we recommend for a hotel desk is 110 cm. Below that, the top has no room for an open laptop and a glass of water at the same time without one of them overhanging the edge. The minimum depth is 45 cm: below that, the laptop sits too close to the front edge and the guest ends up working in an uncomfortable position.

We design the hotel desk as a technology hub

One of the most common problems in Italian hotel rooms is where the electrical sockets are. They’re almost always on the wall behind the desk, in a spot that means moving the furniture to reach them. A guest arrives with three devices to charge, finds the socket out of reach, and ends up charging everything on the bedside table using the extension lead they brought from home.

The solution is to build the sockets straight into the desk itself, in a spot you can reach without moving anything: on the top, on the side, or in a dedicated compartment with a hidden flap. Sockets built into the top with a hidden flap are the cleanest solution visually: when not in use, they disappear and the top stays flush. On the side of the unit they’re more accessible, but stay visible even when not in use.

USB-C sockets are now essential in any room aimed at business guests or guests under 50: almost every modern device charges via USB-C, and a guest who has to dig out an adaptor to charge their phone notices the gap and remembers it. Building a USB-C socket into the desk adds only a marginal cost at the production stage, but has a significant impact on how modern and attentive to detail the property feels. The exact position of the integrated sockets is agreed during the site survey, based on the room’s existing electrical layout.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Is the minibar compartment integrated into the desk sized for a specific model?

Yes. During the site survey we take the exact measurements of the existing fridge, or the model chosen for purchase, and build the recess with the clearances needed for correct installation and ventilation of the appliance.

Can electrical sockets be integrated into an existing desk?

In some cases yes, it depends on the construction of the existing unit. We assess feasibility during the site survey. If it isn’t possible to build sockets into the existing desk, we make a new one coordinated with the finishes of the room’s furniture.

Does the scratch-resistant surface get scratched by keys or metal objects?

The scratch-resistant surfaces we use withstand normal everyday abrasion, including from keys and common metal objects. They’re not indestructible, but they keep their original appearance for the full expected life of the piece under standard hotel use.

Do you make made-to-measure desks for rooms with non-standard spaces?

Yes. Every desk is made to the exact dimensions of the available space, measured during the site survey. If the available wall is 108 cm wide, the desk is 107 cm wide, with the minibar recess and luggage rack sized to match.

How long does it take to produce and deliver a desk?

Production takes around 4-6 weeks from order confirmation. Delivery and installation are included worldwide and are arranged with the property to minimise operational disruption.

Do you make desks that can be coordinated with furniture from other suppliers?

Yes. If you provide a sample of the existing finish, we make the desk in the closest compatible finish from our 15 standard options, or to a dedicated sample.
