The armchair is the piece of furniture that divides hotel rooms into two categories: those where the guest actually sits down, and those where the armchair becomes an improvised coat rack. The difference isn’t in the price of the armchair: it’s in whether it’s been placed in the right spot, sized correctly for the room, and comfortable enough to be used for what it was put there for. An armchair that’s too large for an 18 sqm room takes up manoeuvring space and never gets used. An armchair that’s too small in a 40 sqm suite disappears into the room and fails to create the relax zone it should. We create bespoke armchairs for hotels in the dimensions, upholstery and finishes you need, coordinated with the rest of the room’s furniture. From compact pieces for standard rooms to statement pieces for high-profile suites. Delivery and installation are included worldwide.

How to choose the armchair for your hotel

The reason hotel armchairs end up collecting jackets, bags and trousers instead of seated guests is almost always the same: they’ve been placed in the wrong spot, they’re the wrong size for the room, or they’re uncomfortable enough that sitting on the bed is still the better option.

A hotel armchair placed in the darkest corner of the room, far from the window and natural light, will never get used for reading. An armchair with a seat so high the feet don’t touch the ground isn’t comfortable for a long phone call. An armchair so deep that you sink into it and getting up takes effort is avoided by guests over 60, who are often the ones with the most free time in their room.

When we design a room’s relax zone, we assess the armchair’s position based on the available light, the distance from the bed and desk, the ceiling height and how the room is used. An armchair in the right spot, with the right proportions for the room, is something the guest actually uses and that adds to the quality of their stay. An armchair in the wrong spot is an obstacle housekeeping moves every day.

Dimensions and proportions of hotel armchairs

The armchair’s dimensions have to be proportioned to the room, not chosen independently of it. An 85 cm wide armchair in a 16 sqm room takes up almost a quarter of the shortest wall and narrows the walkway to less than 60 cm. A 60 cm armchair in the same room leaves enough space to move around without having to turn sideways every time you pass it.

The practical rule we follow is this: in a room under 20 sqm, the armchair shouldn’t exceed 65 cm in width and 70 cm in depth. In a room between 20 and 30 sqm, you can go up to 75 cm in width with a separate pouf. In a suite over 30 sqm, the armchair can have more generous dimensions without penalising the space.

Seat height is the other critical parameter. In a hotel room where the guest needs to be able to get up easily even after a work session or an evening out, a seat height of 46-48 cm works best. For accessible rooms, the seat should be at 50-55 cm to make transferring easier. We define these measurements during the site survey, based on the property’s target guest profile.

Upholstery and finishes for hotel armchairs

Upholstery for a hotel armchair has to withstand very heavy use, and it has to be easy to clean with professional products. This significantly narrows the available choices.

Faux leather is the most practical upholstery for standard room armchairs: it wipes clean with a damp cloth, doesn’t absorb liquids, doesn’t hold odours and keeps its original look for years even under intensive use. It does have an aesthetic limitation, though: in high-profile settings such as 4 and 5-star hotel suites, faux leather is perceived as a lower-tier material compared with fabric or natural leather.

Technical fabrics with stain-resistant treatment are the most balanced choice for superior room and suite armchairs: they have the texture and visual warmth of an ordinary fabric, but resist liquids and clean with professional products without deteriorating. Abrasion resistance should be at least 30,000 Martindale cycles for hotel use, the level that keeps upholstery lasting five years or more even under intensive daily use.

For high-profile suites where aesthetics come first, we make armchairs in natural leather or fine fabrics with a specific treatment for contract use. In these cases the cost is higher, but the visual result and the quality guests perceive justify the investment.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Do you make armchairs in the same finishes as the room’s furniture?

Yes. Armchair upholstery can be coordinated with the fabrics used for headboards, sofas and other upholstered pieces in the room. Colour coordination is defined during the site survey, based on the existing finishes or those chosen for the rest of the furniture.

Can I order just the armchair without the rest of the furniture?

Yes. We also supply armchairs as a standalone order. In this case, simply tell us the finish of your existing furniture or provide a sample, and we’ll make it in the closest available match.

Are the armchairs you make also suitable for common areas?

Yes. We make armchairs for rooms and for common areas with different construction specifications: armchairs for common areas have higher-density foam and upholstery with greater abrasion resistance, to stand up to more intensive and varied use.

How much space is needed in front of the armchair to use it comfortably?

As a general rule, you need at least 60 cm of clear space in front of the armchair to get up without difficulty. For armchairs with a pouf, the space required increases by the depth of the pouf, usually another 50-60 cm. Our free site survey lets us check the available space on the actual floor plan.

How long does it take to produce and deliver an armchair?

Production takes around 5-6 weeks from order confirmation. Delivery and installation are included worldwide and are arranged with the property to minimise operational disruption.

Do you make armchairs that coordinate with furniture from other suppliers?

Yes. If you provide a sample of the existing finish or upholstery, we make the armchair in the closest available combination among our standard finishes or on a dedicated sample.
